Welcome to Jenny's Handmade Boutique!

Welcome!

Although this blog is not about martial arts, it's about me...and martial arts is a part of who and what I am. In fact, martial arts is what got me started into creating lovely knitted and crocheted fancywork items!

You ask how, by any stretch of the imagination, my study of Kenpo and Tai Chi ended up with me creating and marketing wonderful handmade items?

Many years ago, my doctor diagnosed me with degenerative arthritis. He told me that in a few years I could forget being able to use my hands, or walk, or much else, because degenerative arthritis becomes so crippling, many folks just give up.

Well, I never have been one to give up on anything...much less myself. I took up the study of Kenpo at the age of 45. I had my Black Belt by age 50. I still have degenerative arthritis, but as long as I keep my body working and busy, it doesn't fall to pieces on me!

Since I have nearly retired from teaching martial arts (I am nearing 68), I chose to keep my hands and fingers busy and well-oiled by picking up knitting needles and crochet hooks, and getting down to business.

The photo above left was taken only five years ago. I was 63. The photo taken above right is me at age 62. Needless to say, I did not allow degenerative arthritis to take me out of action. So now you know how the study of martial arts got me into the business of making fancywork items.

In later posts, I will show some of the beautiful things I make.
